Beyond the Shadows

I thought I saw your face today,
But was it your face?
The shadows are lurking behind me,
Whispering—shouting for an answer.
But I will lie to them.
Deep down, I know that it was not your face,
But the mistakes of the past,
Haunting me every single day,
As if they were waiting to see me crack.
I once heard a dear friend say,
“This too shall pass.”
So here I am, holding my breath,
Waiting for the shadows to subside.
Well, who am I kidding?
For the shadows are afraid of me.
As you see, I am the one in control.
Only I will decide my destiny.
My peace is my own,
And my future shines.
It shines brighter than the North Star.
